On July 28, 2010, Abbey Spanier was appointed co-lead counsel in In re Toyota 2010 Prius/Hybrid Brake Class Actions, Lead Case No. 8:10-CV-00154-CJC-RNBx, a class action brought against Toyota Motor Corporation in connection with the February 2010 recall of 133,000 2010 model year Prius and 14,500 Lexus HS250 vehicles. The vehicles exhibit momentary loss of braking capability while traveling over uneven road surfaces, potholes or bumps. Plaintiffs allege that while Toyota represented that the vehicles were defect free, Toyota was aware, or should have been aware, that the braking system had an inherent defect.
