ABBEY SPANIER ATTORNEYS NAMED AS 2010 NEW YORK SUPER LAWYERS
Partners Judith L. Spanier and Stephen T. Rodd have been named by New York Super Lawyers magazine as two of the top attorneys in New York for 2010. Only five percent of the lawyers in the state are named by Super Lawyers.
Each year, the research team at Super Lawyers undertakes a rigorous multi-phase selection process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by the attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area, and a good-standing and disciplinary check.
Judith L. Spanier has been included in the Employment Litigation section for her expertise in litigating cases on behalf of plaintiffs who suffer from unfair employment practices in their workplace. Ms. Spanier is to be commended for her work in pursuing a class action against Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. on behalf of 186,000 current and former hourly employees, and obtaining a $78 million jury verdict against Wal-Mart and an express jury finding that Wal-Mart did not act in good faith in failing to pay class members for missed rest and rest breaks and off the clock work.
Stephen T. Rodd was noted for his extensive legal knowledge in Securities Litigation. Mr. Rodd was a lead attorney for the litigation team in In re Vivendi Universal, S.A. Sec. Litig. class action, culminating in a three month trial and jury verdict finding defendant Vivendi Universal, S.A. liable for securities fraud on each of the 57 material misstatements alleged by plaintiffs. Vivendi is just one of nine securities class actions tried to verdict based on wrongs committed following the passage of the PSLRA.
